Psychotherapy

In a therapeutic relationship, it is essential that you feel comfortable and know that your therapist understands your experiences. I am skilled in working with individuals, couples, children and families to help them grow and flourish.

Over the years, I have been fortunate to have a diverse practice.

  • I have helped people going through life transitions, such as marriage, separation and divorce, birth and death.  I have assisted families in working through their emotions, gaining insight and understanding of what has occurred and learning how they can respond in order to help them to go forward in a more positive manner.
  • At UCLA’s Neuropsychiatric Institute in the Children’s Services Unit, as a staff and clinical faculty member, I provided  therapy, while teaching and supervising psychiatry, psychology and social work trainees in the areas of family assessment and treatment.
  • I have been profoundly moved while assisting trauma victims and their families in my work in emergency and disaster response.
  • I have had the honor of working with military families coping with their challenges.
  • I have helped families with co-parenting and shared parenting arrangements function in a more cooperative, child centered manner.
  • I have treated people dealing with anxiety, OCD, ADD, Depression and Bi-polar disorder for over 35 years.  I coordinate care with treating physicians.  I have also helped people who have family members with mental health issues.
  • I have counseled couples in improving their communication skills, increasing their understanding of each other, and forming empathic connections to strengthen and deepen their relationships.

I use a collaborative approach to set goals.  I utilize several therapeutic modalities to bring about meaningful change, including psychodynamic, family therapy and cognitive behavioral techniques, depending on the client’s needs and abilities.
